A Sunrise Tailgate Breakfast

Texas sunrise at the Howell Ranch

It may be 105 outside but come every Sept.1 the Howell cousins gather at the Howell Ranch for the annual dove hunt.  We all share wonderful childhood memories of being at our grandparents house on opening day of dove season.  There would be lots of men in camo, gun shots sounding in the pasture, the sound of Jerry Lewis on TV for the MD Marathon, and the smell of chicken fried steak and coconut cream pie in the kitchen of the farm house.

Now, we gather at sunrise for the annual dove hunt.  We have a sunrise tailgate breakfast, tell lots of stories and do a little hunting before heading to Clarks BBQ in Tioga, Texas for lunch!

Getting the party started

Pictures from past dove hunts
Breakfast bar includes Pioneer Woman's Sunrise Punch, orange juice and coffee
The girls may not always hunt but we always pose for the annual dove hunt picture.

Sunrise tailgate breakfast includes Egg and Sausage Quiche, Not Your Momma's Pigs in a Blanket,
Fruit Skewers, Cheese Blintzes, and Blueberry Muffins.

Cousin Shelley's Cheese Blintzes

1 loaf of white bread
4 T. white sugar
2 T.  ground cinnamon
2 (8 ounces) packages of cream cheese, softened
2 T. milk
1 t. vanilla
1/2 c. butter

Preheat oven to 350.  Spray a cookie sheet with non stick spray
Trim crusts from bread and roll the slices flat.
In a bowl combine sugar and cinnamon to make a mixture.
In a large mixing bowl, mix softened cream cheese, milk and vanilla until smooth.  Spread this mixture onto each slice of flattened bread. Roll each bread slice up.  Dip bread/cream cheese rolls in melted butter, roll the blintzes immediately in the sugar cinnamon mixture.  Cut rolls into 1 inch pieces.  Place them on the cookie sheet.
Bake for 10 minutes
